The CTET Exam Pattern 2026 explains how the Central Teacher Eligibility Test is structured for candidates preparing for teaching positions at the elementary and primary levels. The Central Board of Secondary Education conducts the CTET to assess candidates on their understanding of child development, pedagogy, and subject-specific concepts required for teaching. The exam is divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2, allowing candidates to appear for the level of teaching they intend to pursue. Understanding the paper structure, section-wise distribution, and assessment rules can help candidates organise their preparation according to the requirements of the exam.

  • Paper 1 is designed for candidates who wish to teach Classes 1 to 5, while Paper 2 is intended for those seeking eligibility to teach Classes 6 to 8. Candidates who wish to teach at both levels can appear for both papers.
  • Both CTET papers 2026 carry 150 questions for a maximum of 150 marks, with each question carrying one mark.
  • The duration of each paper is 2 hours 30 minutes, and candidates have to answer all questions within the allotted exam time.
  • Paper 1 includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Language I and Language II, with 30 questions in each section.
  • Paper 2 contains Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, and a subject-specific section. The final section consists of Mathematics and Science or Social Studies or Social Science, depending on the candidate's selected teaching area.
  • CTET follows a no-negative-marking rule, meaning no marks are deducted for incorrect answers.
  • The CTET exam 2026 will be conducted using OMR answer sheets, and candidates are required to mark their responses on the answer sheet.
