About JEE Main College Predictor 2027

The KollegeApply JEE Main College Predictor 2027 helps you estimate which NITs, IIITs and GFTIs you can get with your JEE Main rank or percentile, category, gender and home state. It maps your profile against multi-year JoSAA opening and closing ranks (2021–2026) to show realistic college and branch options.

In JEE Main 2026 (Session 1), over 13 lakh candidates appeared, competing for approximately 44,693 seats in the NIT+ system (JoSAA data). With this level of competition, even a small variation in rank can significantly impact college selection, branch availability, and final seat allotment during counselling.

While candidates often refer to JoSAA cutoff ranks after result declaration, these cutoffs vary across multiple counselling rounds, categories, quotas, and institute–branch combinations, making manual analysis complex and unreliable when based on a single year.

The KollegeApply JEE Main College Predictor 2027 simplifies this process by analysing multi-year cutoff trends and mapping them against your input. It provides a filtered list of colleges, branch options, and admission probability (Safe, Moderate, Risky), helping you identify realistic choices and build a balanced JoSAA preference list with clarity and confidence.

How to Use the JEE Main College Predictor 2027

The JEE Main college predictor maps your JEE Main rank to realistic college and branch options using round-wise JoSAA cutoff data from several years. You need only 4 details from your JEE Main scorecard and Class 12 records:

  1. Enter your JEE Main rank or percentile. Your Common Rank List (CRL) rank works for all categories; reserved-category candidates can also enter their category rank.
  2. Select your category: General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, with PwD if it applies.
  3. Select your gender, so female candidates also see the female-only seat pool.
  4. Select your home state, which is the state where you first appeared for Class 12 (not your domicile or residence).
  5. Click "Predict Now" and review your list.

How the JEE Main College Predictor Works

The JEE Main College predictor compares your rank with JoSAA's previous opening and closing ranks for every institute, branch, category, quota and gender pool, then lists the combinations where your rank fits. Each input changes your list, which is why entering them correctly matters:

  • Rank: JoSAA allots seats by rank, not marks or percentile. For General candidates, closing ranks are CRL ranks; for reserved categories, they are category ranks.
  • Category: NIT seats are split into OBC-NCL (27%), SC (15%), EWS (10%) and ST (7.5%), with General seats taking the remaining 40.5%. Each category has its own closing ranks.
  • Gender: female candidates get supernumerary seats that keep female enrolment at NITs at about 20%, and are considered in both the female-only and gender-neutral pools.
  • Home state: half of every NIT's seats go to candidates from its own state, which often closes at a much higher rank than the Other State quota.

Closing ranks also move between rounds as candidates upgrade or withdraw. In JoSAA 2026, NIT Surathkal's CSE seats for Other State General candidates closed at 1,605 in Round 1 and 1,954 by Round 5.

What do your JEE Main results mean?

Each college and branch in your list is marked by how your JEE Main rank compares with its previous closing ranks.

A good JoSAA list usually includes all three, ordered by where you would most like to study.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Overview

JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in 2 sessions, in January and April, as a computer-based test in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You can appear in both sessions, and NTA uses the better of your two scores. JEE Main 2027 will be conducted in January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027 (tentative, NTA calendar)

Your JEE Main rank is the basis for JoSAA admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs: the CRL rank for General candidates and the category rank for reserved categories. JEE Main also decides who can take JEE Advanced, which is needed for IIT seats. In 2026, 2,50,182 candidates qualified for JEE Advanced, for 18,951 IIT seats.

How Competitive Is JEE Main? Candidates vs Seats

In 2026, about 3 in every 100 JEE Main candidates could get a seat at an NIT, IIIT or GFTI through JoSAA. That is why a few hundred ranks can decide your college and branch.

Two things stand out. Candidate numbers grew by over 1.2 lakh between 2024 and 2026, but JoSAA added more than 6,000 seats outside the IITs in the same period, so the share of candidates who can get a seat has held steady. The pressure is concentrated at the top: CSE at the best NITs still closes within the first 1,000 to 3,000 ranks.

JEE Main 2026 in numbers

Across both sessions, 16,04,854 unique candidates registered and 15,38,468 appeared. NTA counts your better score of the two sessions, and 2,50,182 candidates qualified for JEE Advanced 2026.

JoSAA 2026 Seat Matrix: Seats You Can Get Through JEE Main

JoSAA 2026 offered 67,323 seats in 138 institutes (including IISc Bengaluru and IIEST Shibpur), 4,470 more than in 2025. Of these, 48,372 seats in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs are open to JEE Main ranks; IIT seats need a JEE Advanced rank.

IIITs grew the most, adding 1,578 seats, followed by GFTIs with 1,464. More seats in a college generally means its closing ranks stretch further, so check the latest seat matrix before relying on old cutoffs.

How to Convert Your JEE Main Percentile to Rank

If you know your percentile but not your rank, you can estimate your All India Rank with one calculation: Approximate rank = (100 − your percentile) × total candidates ÷ 100. Using the 15,38,468 candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2026:

This is an estimate: NTA calculates percentiles within each session's shifts, and ties are broken by subject scores. Your scorecard's CRL rank is the number to use. For a rank estimate from marks, use the JEE Main Rank Predictor.

JEE Main Rank vs College: JoSAA 2026 Closing Ranks

The rank you need depends mostly on the college and the branch. In JoSAA 2026, CSE for Other State General candidates closed at rank 1,373 at NIT Trichy and 10,512 at MANIT Bhopal, while NIT Manipur's CSE seats stayed open until rank 43,239.

What Can Your JEE Main Rank Get You? (General, Other State, based on 2026)

Branch choice opens up options quickly. Civil Engineering at top NITs closed beyond rank 20,000 in 2026, far later than CSE at the same institutes. If a particular NIT matters more to you than CSE, include its other branches in your list.

Home State, Category and Gender: How They Change Your Options

2 candidates with the same rank can get very different colleges. These three factors explain most of the gap.

Home State vs Other State quota

Every NIT keeps 50% of its seats for candidates from its own state, decided by where you first appeared for Class 12. The Home State pool is often far less competitive.

If your home state has an NIT, put its branches in your list even if your rank looks too low for that NIT under the Other State cutoffs. IIITs and GFTIs mostly have no home state quota.

Category

Reserved-category closing ranks are category ranks, not CRL ranks. In JoSAA 2026, EWS candidates got CSE at NIT Trichy up to EWS rank 287 and at NIT Surathkal up to 361. Use your category rank when you compare.

Branch choice matters within a category too: at NIT Surathkal, OBC-NCL CSE closed at category rank 2,251, while ECE stayed open until 3,862.

Gender

Female candidates are considered for supernumerary seats that keep female enrolment at NITs at about 20%, as well as the gender-neutral seats. Female-only seats usually close at higher ranks than gender-neutral seats, so female candidates often have more options at the same rank.

Top NITs by NIRF Ranking 2025

NIRF rankings help you compare college quality once you know which colleges your rank can reach. NIT Trichy is the highest-ranked NIT in the NIRF 2025 Engineering Ranking, at 9th nationally.

The two columns don't follow the same order. NIT Rourkela ranks second among NITs in NIRF, but its CSE seats close at a later rank than Surathkal or Warangal. If your rank is just outside the top three NITs, a highly ranked NIT like Rourkela can be a strong choice. NIRF 2026 had not been published at the time of writing.

How does JoSAA Counselling allot seats?

JoSAA allots seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through one combined process. Your rank decides your place in the queue; your choice list decides which seat you get.

  1. Register and fill choices on josaa.nic.in after the JEE Advanced result. You can add as many institute and branch combinations as you like, in order of preference.
  2. Lock your choices before the deadline. Seats are allotted only from your locked list.
  3. Check each round's allotment. In 2026, JoSAA ran five rounds.
  4. Choose Freeze, Float or Slide. Freeze accepts your seat and ends upgrades. Float keeps your seat but lets you move to a higher choice at any institute. Slide keeps you at the same institute but allows a better branch there.
  5. Pay the seat acceptance fee and upload documents within the deadline, or you lose the seat.
  6. CSAB special rounds follow for seats in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs still vacant after JoSAA. In 2026, they began on July 22.

Class 12 eligibility: to join an NIT, IIIT or GFTI through JoSAA, you need at least 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. A good JEE Main rank alone is not enough.

The order of your choices matters more than their number. List colleges where you would genuinely study, from most to least preferred, and include Safe options lower down so you are not left without a seat.

JEE Main 2027 Important Dates

NTA's examination calendar lists JEE Main 2027 Session 1 from January 22 to 30, 2027. These dates are tentative until the official notification.

JEE Main College Predictor 2027 FAQs

Which college can I get with my JEE Main rank?

It depends on your rank, category, gender, home state and branch preference. As a guide, CSE for Other State General candidates in JoSAA 2026 closed at rank 1,373 at NIT Trichy, 4,266 at NIT Rourkela and 10,512 at MANIT Bhopal. Enter your details in the predictor for a list based on your own profile.

What rank is required for CSE at an NIT?

For Other State General candidates, CSE at the top three NITs closed between ranks 1,373 and 2,581 in JoSAA 2026. Mid-tier NITs closed between about 5,000 and 10,500, and NIT Manipur, the least competitive NIT for CSE, closed at 43,239.

Which college can I get with a 10,000 rank in JEE Main?

At rank 10,000 in the General category, CSE is realistic at MANIT Bhopal (closed at 10,512 in 2026) and newer NITs, while top NITs are open in other branches. With the Home State quota or a reserved category, your options widen considerably.

Which college can I get with a 25,000 rank in JEE Main?

At rank 25,000, CSE is possible at some newer NITs, and core branches such as Mechanical, Civil and Chemical are open at many mid-tier NITs. IIITs and GFTIs add more options in CSE-related branches.

Can I get an NIT with a 50,000 rank in JEE Main?

Yes, but mostly in lower-demand branches at newer NITs, or through the Home State quota or a reserved category. Under Other State General seats, even the least competitive NIT CSE seat closed at 43,239 in 2026. Also include GFTIs and the CSAB special rounds.

What percentile is required for NIT?

There is no fixed percentile, because JoSAA admits by rank. As an estimate, 99 percentile was about rank 15,400 in 2026 and 99.9 percentile about rank 1,540. CSE at the top three NITs needs roughly 99.8 percentile or above for Other State General candidates.

Is 95 percentile good for an NIT?

95 percentile was about rank 77,000 in 2026. That is too far back for most NIT branches under Other State General seats, but it can work with the Home State quota, a reserved category, newer NITs in core branches, GFTIs or CSAB rounds.

Which IIIT can I get with my JEE Main rank?

IIIT closing ranks vary widely, from the top few thousand ranks at the most sought-after IIITs to well beyond 50,000 at newer ones. IIITs have no Home State quota, so your CRL or category rank decides your options. Use the predictor to see IIITs that fit your rank.

Does the home state quota really make a difference?

Yes. In JoSAA 2026, NIT Rourkela's CSE seats closed at rank 4,266 for Other State candidates but at 9,635 for Odisha candidates. Your home state is where you first appeared for Class 12.

Is a good JEE Main rank enough for NIT admission?

No. You also need 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board.

What details do I need to use the JEE Main College Predictor?

Your JEE Main rank or percentile, category, gender and home state.

Is the JEE Main College Predictor free?

Yes. It is free and shows results instantly.

How accurate is the JEE Main College Predictor?

It uses previous JoSAA opening and closing ranks, so it gives a realistic estimate. Closing ranks shift each year with the seat matrix, number of candidates and preferences, so treat the results as a guide, not a guarantee.

When should I use the JEE Main College Predictor?

Use it once your JEE Main rank is out to shortlist colleges, then again before JoSAA choice filling to finalise your preference order.
