  • The difficulty level of NMAT is easier than CAT, and it has no negative marking.
  • Candidates can take the exam up to three times within the testing window. This means that if candidates are not satisfied with their one exam score, they can appear for another attempt.

NMAT Retake 2026

One of the biggest flexibilities for the NMAT exam is retakes. Candidates have the option to take the NMAT exam a maximum of 3 times within the testing window. This means that if a candidate is not satisfied with their performance on the first attempt, they can appear again until the last test window date. Out of 3 attempts, 1 is the main attempt, and 2 are retakes.

  • Candidates can send their scores to participating business schools, but each school decides which attempt’s score it accepts. For example, NMIMS Mumbai accepts only the first valid NMAT score.
  • Retake payment and scheduling will be available after the candidate’s previous attempt. After paying the retake fee, candidates can click on the retake exam button, then select their location, date, and time.
  • If a candidate’s scorecard shows a valid score, they can book their next attempt. However, the next exam date must be at least 7 days later.
  • If a candidate’s scorecard shows No Show, NDA Refused, or Exam Incomplete, they can schedule a new exam slot after 24 hours.

How NMAT 2026 Rescheduling Works?

NMAT rescheduling allows candidates to change their booked exam date, time or test centre if their plans change. The request must be submitted within the permitted deadline, and the revised slot is subject to availability.

  • Visit the official NMAT website and log in to the candidate dashboard.
  • Open the rescheduling option for the scheduled exam.
  • Select an available alternative date, time or test centre.
  • Review the revised appointment details and pay the rescheduling fee.
  • Confirm the change and check the updated appointment details in the dashboard and confirmation email.

Candidates must reschedule their exam at least 72 hours before the scheduled appointment. Rescheduling is not permitted when 72 hours or less remain before the exam starts. The rescheduling fee for the 2026 cycle is INR 1,200 plus applicable taxes.

Candidates should also note that rescheduling depends on the available slots and must be completed before the applicable rescheduling deadline. Missing the scheduled exam without a valid rescheduling arrangement may result in the attempt being marked as a no-show.

NMAT Result 2026

The unofficial NMAT score is displayed on the screen immediately after the test. The official scorecard, including sectional and overall scaled scores, is generally available for download within 48 hours of the exam. The official NMAT Result 2026 will provide both section-wise and overall scaled scores. Candidates will receive an email notification once their scorecard is ready. The scorecard will include their scaled scores for each section and overall NMAT score.

NMAT questions are selected from a question pool based on a candidate’s performance on previously answered questions. This approach means that the difficulty level of subsequent questions is adjusted to the candidate’s estimated ability. As a result, higher-performing candidates may generally receive more difficult questions than lower-performing candidates.

For scoring, the exam first estimates a candidate’s ability using a probabilistic model and then converts the estimate into a scaled score ranging from 12 to 120 for each section. Candidates can also check NMAT Rank Predictor to predict their expected rank using score and NMAT College Predictor to predict which college they can get with their score.

NMAT 2026 Scaled Score

NMAT by GMAC reports scores using a scaled scoring system. Questions are selected from the question pool based on a candidate's performance on previously answered questions. The questions are targeted to the candidate's estimated ability level. GMAC first calculates the candidate's final ability estimate using a probabilistic model based on modern exam theory and then converts the estimate into a scaled score. Each NMAT section has a scaled score range of 12 to 120, while the total score ranges from 36 to 360. The three sections: Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning, contribute equally to the total score.

The NMAT scorecard includes the candidate's scaled section scores and total score. The scorecard is available for download within 48 hours of taking the exam, and candidates are notified by email when it is ready.
