RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026 Highlights
RRB uses two online CBTs of 90 minutes each. CBT 1 has 100 questions, and CBT 2 has 120. Marking is one mark per question with one-third negative marking. Papers come in 15 languages.
RRB NTPC Exam Pattern 2026
CBT 1 has 40 General Awareness, 30 Mathematics, and 30 Reasoning questions. CBT 2 has 50, 35, and 35. Each question carries one mark. Time per question is 54 seconds in CBT 1 and 45 seconds in CBT 2.
General Awareness carries 40% of CBT 1 and about 42% of CBT 2. Mathematics and Reasoning carry 30% each in CBT 1 and about 29% each in CBT 2. The section split is indicative and may change.
What Changed From Last Year for RRB NTPC?
The RRB NTPC syllabus and CBT pattern are unchanged. The typing test and CBAT are removed. Graduate posts fall from 6 to 4. Vacancies drop to 3,548 (Graduate) and 1,688 (UG), from 5,810 and 3,058.
The CBT pattern did not change. Only the post list, vacancies and skill tests changed. Past papers from 2024 and 2025 are therefore still useful for CBT practice, as both levels follow one pattern.
RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026 for Mathematics
Mathematics has 30 questions in CBT 1 and 35 in CBT 2. The CEN lists 15 topics. Arithmetic fills most of the list. Geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and statistics complete it.
RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026 for General Intelligence and Reasoning
General Intelligence and Reasoning has 30 questions in CBT 1 and 35 in CBT 2. The RRB NTPC syllabus CEN lists 17 topics, from analogies and coding to puzzles, maps, and graph reading.
RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026 for General Awareness
General Awareness has 40 questions in CBT 1 and 50 in CBT 2. It is the largest section in both papers. The CEN lists 20 areas, from current events and sports to computers and transport.
IN RRB NTPC, General Science stays at the Class 10 CBSE level. Current events cover both national and international news. Transport Systems in India and Basics of Computers are named areas, so both can appear in the paper.
RRB NTPC Typing Test and CBAT 2026
The typing skill test is removed for Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, and Junior Clerk cum Typist. CBAT is not held because Station Master and Traffic Assistant are not notified in 2026.
Basic computer and typing skills are still expected. Proficiency is assessed after joining, and poor performance may delay confirmation or promotion. So no separate syllabus exists for any skill test in 2026.
RRB NTPC Marking, Qualifying Marks and Shortlisting
Every question carries one mark. One-third of a mark is cut for each wrong answer. Marks are normalised when a CBT runs in many shifts. Questions appear in the chosen language and in English.
These are minimum marks to qualify, not cutoffs for RRB NTPC. They also apply to ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates by community. PwBD candidates may get a 2-mark relaxation if reserved seats stay unfilled.
CBT 1 only screens. Its normalised score picks about 15 times the community-wise vacancies for CBT 2. That is roughly 53,000 candidates for 3,548 Graduate posts and 25,000 for 1,688 UG posts.
CBT 2 then picks candidates for Document Verification at a 1:1 ratio. Final merit is based on CBT 2 marks. Ties are broken by age, with the older candidate ranked higher, then by name.
Preparation Tips for RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026
- Time targets: CBT 1 allows 54 seconds per question, and CBT 2 allows 45. Sectional practice should follow these limits.
- General Awareness first: It has 40 of 100 questions in CBT 1 and 50 of 120 in CBT 2. Daily current affairs, Indian transport, and computer basics deserve fixed slots.
- Arithmetic speed: Percentage, profit and loss, time and work, and interest fill most of the Mathematics list. Speed here decides the section score.
- Wrong answers cost marks: Ten wrong answers remove about three marks. Guessing is safer only when options can be cut down.
- Practice material: Mock tests are available on the unified RRB website. Past papers from 2024 and 2025 follow the same pattern.
