Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) was established in 2008 as one of the second-generation IITs. IIT Gandhinagar offers four-year BTech programmes in eight specialisations, including newer ones such as Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Circuit Design & Technology. Admission at IITGN is entirely entrance-exam driven, with no management or direct-entry route. BTech admission runs through JEE Main, then JEE Advanced, and finally JoSAA counselling, where seats are allotted by category and rank. IIT Gandhinagar MTech admission is based on a valid GATE score, with offers released through the COAP portal and shortlisting done department-wise.

MSc admission uses IIT JAM scores followed by JOAPS counselling. MDes admission is based on CEED, followed by a portfolio review and interview. The 2024-25 IIT Gandhinagar placement cycle was handled by the Career Development Services (CDS) cell, which approached nearly 3,000 organisations. That outreach produced 200 job offers, and 82.39% of registered undergraduate students were placed, up from 81% the previous year. Around 80% of the offers came from core sectors, which is unusually high for a newer IIT and reflects the strength of the chemical, civil, materials and mechanical departments. IITGN runs a broad financial aid programme so that fees do not block admission. IIT Gandhinagar PhD scholarships largely take the form of MoE assistantships paying INR 37,000 per month, rising to INR 42,000 after two years. The IIT Gandhinagar cutoff is released as JoSAA closing ranks, calculated on JEE Advanced category ranks.
